Combining strategy and farming games, Space Empire takes social gaming where no Facebook game has gone before

True to its name, Space Empires: Battle for Supremacy has some lofty ambitions. A spirited Facebook port of a 17-year-old cult PC franchise seasoned with a dash of Farmville, a hint of StarCraft, and a thick topping of Imperion, Space Empires was developed by Nvinium Games in the hopes of bridging "the gap between the traditional gamer and the social gamer." According to some, galactic dominance may be an easier goal, but Nvinium has made an impressive effort here that shouldn't be missed.

Bejeweled Blitz. Farmville. These are the types of games I think of when one mentions the majority of games that populate the popular social network Facebook quick, easily digested nuggets of gaming meant to entertain for those short bursts of time when the doldrums of work wear us down and we have no other means of escapism. I certainly don't think of deep, engrossing space empire building sims, but then again, I guess it just takes one to get the ball rolling, and Space Empires: Battle For Supremacy is looking to do just that.

In 1993, a new era of strategy gaming was born, in the form of Space Empires. It quickly became popular among strategy titles of the time and eventually paved the way for four sequels. Over time, though, the game's following died out to some degree, but nearly 20 years later Nvinium Games is set to launch a new, social version of the cult classic in the form of Space Empires: Battle for Supremacy.

Apparently, people are still interested in playing text based games. A good example is UnforgivenWar by Nvinium Games. This free text based, massive multiplayer online browser game allows people to join the military, go through boot camp, take part in missions and work together, all with only text. The game is only in the beta phase, but over 100,000 people have joined.
